Mr. David Neujahr, Principal and 7th & 8th Grade Teacher

Mr. David Neujahr received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1980.  His first assignment was to Evergreen Lutheran High School for the 1980-81 school year, where he served as a dormitory supervisor and part-time instructor. The following year he was assigned to St. Martin Lutheran School in Watertown, South Dakota, serving as athletic director and upper grades teacher from 1981-1987.  In 1987 Mr. Neujahr accepted a call to Emanuel Lutheran School in New London, Wisconsin, where he served as athletic director and teacher until 1995.  While at Emanuel, he also served as interim and acting principal.  Prior to coming to Zion Lutheran School in Hartland, Mr. Neujahr spent the past twelve years as teacher and principal at St. Stephen Lutheran School in Fallbrook, California.   Dave has been married to wife Jane since 1981 and they have three adult sons.

 

Mr. Scott Nerby, 5th & 6th Grade Teacher; Athletic Director

Scott Nerby has twelve years of teaching experience and a Bachelors degree in Education from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota.  He has taught in Yakima (Washington), Westminster (Colorado) and Hartland at levels ranging from third to eighth grade.  He is currently in the process of obtaining Wisconsin state licensure through Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  His favorite subjects to teach are religion, math and physical education and he serves as athletic director at Zion.

 

Mrs. Jane Neujahr, 3rd & 4th Grade Teacher

Mrs. Neujahr received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Doctor Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota in 1979.  She was called to Emanuel Lutheran School in Tempe, Arizona, where she served as primary grades teacher and Director of Children's Music.  After relocating to New London, Wisconsin in 1987, Mrs. Neujahr taught fifth grade and initiated a school-wide piano lesson program.  Following another relocation to southern California in 1995, she was called to California Lutheran High School, where she served as Director of Music, in addition to teaching English and writing.  Mrs. Neujahr's passion is music.  She has attended numerous music conferences and seminars in children's music and singing, choral conducting, and worship planning.  Her second love is writing.  Mrs. Neujahr is an advocate of the 6 + 1 Writing Traits and has enrolled in writing classes and seminars that teach this concept. She has also taught a workshop in trait writing. Jane is married to husband Dave and they have three adult sons.

Miss Shirleen Maertz, 1st & 2nd Grade Teacher

Miss Maertz graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1982. She began her ministry teaching grades K-4 in a small two room school in Sebewaing, MI. She then taught grades 3-4 at St. John’s in Sparta, WI. She has been teaching grades 1-2 at Zion since 1995. Miss Maertz has received her Wisconsin State Teaching License. She has pursued continuing education in reading and a variety of other areas. She enjoys writing and photographing God’s creation.

Miss Sharon Fickau, Kindergarten Teacher

Sharon Fickau is a 1981 graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minnesota). She has earned many additional credits from Martin Luther College (New Ulm), Carroll College (Waukesha, Wisconsin) and the University of Michigan (Dearborn) in the areas of Early Childhood Education and Reading Instruction.

Miss Fickau has taught various combinations of grades K-5th in the states of Oregon, Ohio, and Illinois. She was called to serve at Zion  in 1995 where she taught grades K4 (T/Th) and K5 (M/W/F) until 2000 when Zion started the Early Childhood Development Center. At that time, Miss Fickau developed the Enriched Kindergarten Program which is now offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays as an extra educational option for children who are enrolled in the Traditional Kindergarten Program at Zion.

Miss Fickau’s hobbies include knitting, counted cross stitch, plastic canvas, card stamping, and reading. She enjoys participating in many church activities, especially singing with the choir.
